What is a RYA Training Centre?

The Sailing School is inspected annually by the Royal Yachting Association. It must reach a national standard in safety equipment, instructor qualifications and quality of teaching. The Centre is also inspected by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA).

 

Who are the Instructors?

Our instructors have a reputation for being friendly and knowledgeable. The senior instructor team have many years boating experience.

 

What should I wear?

Please wear casual clothing and non-slip trainer type footwear, also a change of clothing and a towel.

 

Do I need a life-jacket?

Buoyancy aids and waterproofs will be provided by the Sailing School free of charge.

 

Should I wear a hat?

Children must wear the hard hats provided. It is advisable for adults to wear a woolly hat or one of our padded baseball caps.

 

How do I pay?

We do not  ask for deposits and prepayment. Please pay at the end of the day by cheque or cash, we have no credit card facility.

 

Where can I get lunch?

The Cottage Inn is next door to the Sailing School. Lunch, tea and drinks can be obtained in The Cottage or you may wish to bring sandwiches.

 

Is the water quality safe?

This is much improved in the Harbour in recent years and a thriving fish and Cormorant colony is maintained. A water quality statement is posted on the notice board in front of the Cottage Inn.

 

What if I have a medical condition?

Please notify the Senior Instructor in charge of your course if you have a medical condition.

 

Where can I park my car?

Free car parking is available all day outside The Harbour Master’s Office or The Cottage Inn car park.
